Our Letterboxing, Geocaching Adventure

Early this morning we went on an adventure at a big, wooded park north of town.

From the parking area, we set off to follow a story full of clues leading us to a letterbox.

When we found the letter box we stamped the log book and used their stamp to mark some index cards.  The clue story was about a nuthatch looking for a place to nest, and the stamp image was apropos.

On the Fly #1, Aman Park

Next we headed to three geocaches.  We found sarazon cache #1 and A Soggy Century.  We got close to We All Fall Down, but decided we would all fall down the steep hill and into the river if we attempted to get to it, so we skipped it until the kids are bigger.

Each of the boys had brought some trinkets to trade, but only Elliot decided he wanted to.  He came away with some pretty good loot...

All in all a good time was had by all, even Spencer who was hot and tired and being bothered by the bugs.

Soccer

Both Peter and Elliot are playing soccer at the YMCA one evening a week.

Here the kids are running back and forth across the gym.  You can spot Elliot pretty easily; he is the one bear crawling.

Here they are playing sharks and minnows.  Peter and Elliot are both sharks in this round.

And here they are playing a game of soccer.  Elliot is on the yellow team; they won with two goals.

While the big boys played, Spencer crawled around the rec room and watched the action in the pool.

Zoo Camp

Peter is attending zoo camp for the second year, and this summer Elliot is old enough to join in the fun.  Peter will be attending three sessions (each for four mornings) this summer and Elliot will be attending two sessions.

For this first session, Peter is in the Zoo Menu class where they learn about what different animals eat and go behind the scenes to see the zoo kitchen where they prep the food.  Elliot is in the Critter Tales class where they read different animal stories and then go visit those animals in the zoo.  Both classes also do crafts, play games, and have zoo animal visitors that the kids can touch and pet.

Our South Carolina Trip

We just got home from spending a week in South Carolina with Doug's parents.

We left home at 3am and got there at 6pm.

We celebrated Elliot's birthday.

We swam and played on the beach.

We visited an old, unused, very dark railroad tunnel.

We did a lot of fishing and boating and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Then we had another marathon day of driving to get back home.
