Our New Playground
This past winter the playground in the center of our neighborhood burnt down. A couple days before Spencer was born it was finally ready to be rebuilt. Doug, Peter and Elliot took cookies to the construction volunteers. The new play structure is very fancy and I hope my kids will enjoy it for many years to come.

Dinosaur Sensory Tub
I'm getting ready for the big boys to return by putting together a new dinosaur sensory tub.
The base is beans of all kinds. It is mostly pinto beans, but I also stirred in some 12 bean soup mix to add variety and some coffee beans so it stimulates the sense of smell.
I bought the dinosaur skeletons and skulls online, the bones came from a chicken and the shells from the beach. I made the "fossil imprints" by pressing dino objects into salt dough and baking them until hard.
To add another element to the activity, I glued samples of various types of beans into an egg carton so the boys can try their sorting and classifying skills.
Lastly, I took pictures of each skeleton, skull, bone and shell and made identification sheets. I arranged them alphabetically along with images of the dinosaurs. To help Peter figure out their names I color coded the words by syllable. He gets overwhelmed reading longer words, but can easily tackle 3 and 4 letter syllables if he can see how the word needs to be broken apart. This will also be a good chance for us to discuss some of the more unusual phonetic rules like the "ch" and "ph" in Pachycephalosaurus.

Original due date: August 11th
Revised due date: August 4th when ultrasound showed he was huge
Induced July 29th (meds started at 4:30am)
Born at 1:34 pm weighing 9 lbs 1 oz and measuring 22 inches with a 35 cm head!!
How big would he have been if he baked two more weeks until August 11th?!?!
We escaped the hospital this afternoon right after he turned 24 hours old.
Do you think he looks like the other boys?

One Week Until Spencer
We're almost ready for you little man. You just need to sit tight until Daddy gets home from his business trip.

Peter on his Big Wheel
Peter seems to be getting the hang of this biking thing. You just have to get his center of gravity low enough so he doesn't feel there is any chance of him tipping...and keep him on level, flat terrain...and expect to go pretty slowly and stop unexpectedly...and "jump start" him frequently when he can't get going by himself. So, he's not ready for the Tour de France quite yet, but he did make it around the block for the first time!!
