Mama and Baby Letters

Yesterday I had put a few activities in Peter's activity drawers to work on matching upper and lower case letters.  But, he decided he didn't want to do his activity drawers.  Instead he played with his Ocean Animals book learning about the parts of an octopus and doing math problems with fish.

Today we got to the letter matching.  We talked about how some "baby" letters look like their "moms" and others don't.  To make it more concrete we pulled out some of Peter's Dinosaur Train characters.  Tiny looks just like her mom, but Buddy is a T-Rex who was adopted into the Pteranodon family and so he doesn't look like his mom.

Peter practiced matching upper and lower case letters by looking for matching upper and lower case words.

Then Peter did some painting and we signed his name to his artwork to practice some of the lowercase letters he had learned.

The Salamander Room

This morning Peter and I read The Salamander Room and did salamander activities.


First a number puzzle.

Then a number maze.  I am offering lots of activities to help Peter learn the numbers 11 through 20.

Then a salamander sun catcher.

Easter

The Easter Bunny hid a dozen eggs for each of the boys.  When all of their eggs were found they could have their baskets.

Peter got a kite and a journal in his basket.

 
Then, after Elliot went down for his nap the big people got out the egg dying supplies.

"Helping" Daddy Cut the Grass

It was a gorgeous evening to spend some time outside.  Doug mowed.  Peter played in his new sandbox.  Elliot hung out in his swing watching the activity.

And then Elliot realized he was wearing a hat!!

He didn't have as much luck getting it back on, but it did work well for playing peek.

All the while Peter loaded up his dump truck from outside the sandbox until he decided to take one tentative step into the sand.  Then he quickly jumped out and decided he wasn't ready for that quite yet.

Things were bustling at the mall play area seeing as it is Spring Break week here.
